Requirements for a Tourist Visa
All original documents must be presented along with a photocopy:
- Visa application form, duly completed, dated and signed. It is free of charge and can be collected at the counter or downloaded (s. link on the right hand-side). In case of minors, both parents have to sign the visa application form;
- 2 recent, colour, good quality passport-size photographs;
- Duly signed biometric passport, valid for at least three months beyond the planned stay in the Schengen room and with at least two empty pages (For Liberia, the old passport can be accepted);
- Visa fees (please refer to the web page «Entering Switzerland»);
- 1 photocopy of the passport (pages with the personal data and copies of any previous visa);
- For foreigners: photocopy of the residence permit in the country of residence valid for at least three months beyond the planned stay in the Schengen room;
- Return flight ticket or return flight ticket reservation, with full itinerary;
- Medical insurance covering the whole period of stay in the Schengen room, with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000. The insurance company or its affiliate company has to be based in Switzerland, Liechtenstein or in a Schengen State. In case of multiple entries visa request, a medical insurance covering the whole period is needed;
- Bank statements of the last 3 months attesting that the applicant has sufficient financial means to cover the expenses in the Schengen room, that is an amount of 100 CHF per day;
- Last 3 months salary slips;
- Work statement mentioning the starting date of employment within the company or school attendance certificate or re-registration for the next academic year;
- For self-employed: copy of the business registration excerpt, last tax declaration and documents stating any previous business links with Switzerland;
- Letter of authorized leave signed by the employer or by the school;
- Title deeds or copy of lease agreements;
- Recent water or electricity invoice, in the name of the applicant;
- Hotel booking in Switzerland confirmed and paid;
- Documents confirming the family situation of the applicant (marriage certificate, birth certificate, family certificate, etc.);
- Minors travelling alone must submit an authorisation letter signed by both parents or by the legal guardian with a copy of their passports and the copy of the birth certificate or the formal guardianship declaration in case the minor is not under the care of the biological parents.
The Embassy may request further documentation or guarantees.
