Bilateral relations between Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates
There have been diplomatic relations between Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates since 1973, which are fostered by the Swiss Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
The United Arab Emirates are Switzerland’s most important trade partner in the Middle East. At the end of the 1980s, the two countries concluded agreements on investment protection and aviation. Contacts have intensified in recent years. In 2005, Switzerland opened a “Swiss Business Hub” in Dubai in addition to the Consulate General.
Switzerland is a popular travel destination for tourists from the United Arab Emirates and, conversely, the Emirates are now an established holiday destination for the Swiss.
