The Consulate general of France in Almaty represents Switzerland in issuing visa for the Southern Region of Kazakhstan:

• Almaty
• Almaty Oblast
• Zhambyl Oblast
• South Kazakhstan Oblast 
• Kyzyl-Orda Oblast

and is therefore competent to deliver short-stay visas (also called uniform visa / visa C / Schengen visa) for a period not exceeding 90 days for a journey to Switzerland.

Applicant submits his/her application to the  Consulate general of France in Almaty (fr)

Exceptions:
The Consulate general of France in Almaty is not competent for:

• Applications for short-stay visa connected to gainful or unpaid employment (including lorry drivers and journalists)
• Applications for participation to an international conference (e.g. UN conferences in Geneva)
• Applications for short stay visa connected to studies (summer camp, language course, etc)
• Applications for short stay visa connected to medical reason (check-up, treatment at a spa, rest cure, etc.)
• Applications of citizens of China, Eritrea Iraq, Libya and Somalia
• Applications of diplomatic and service passports holders
• Applications of visitors in Switzerland wishing to prove the financial means by a guaranty declaration of the inviting part

Applicant concerned by one of these exceptions submit his/her application to the Embassy of Switzerland in Astana

The Embassy of Switzerland in Astana is responsible to issue visas for the following countries:

• Principality of Liechtenstein
  Short-stay visa National long-stay visa
• France (metropolitan and Corsica)
  Short-stay visa (except for diplomatic and service passport)

Important information about the representation of France by the Embassy of Switzerland in Astana:
A visa application has to be submitted directly to the Consulate general of France in Almaty if the applicant plans: 

• a journey exceeding 90 days in France (national long-stay visa)
• any purpose of journey to any of the DROM-COM (Départements et régions d’outre-mer- Collectivité d’outre-mer),   Principality of Monaco as well as Principality of Andorra.
