World Expo Yeosu 2012

Switzerland’s presence in South Korea at Expo 2012 Yeosu

The World Expo 2012, which will take place from 12 May to 12 August 2012 in the South Korean coastal city of Yeosu, will unfold under the guiding theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast”. The exhibition site is located in an old harbour basin in Yeosu. Expo 2012 harmoniously fits in with South Korea’s efforts to enhance its international profile in the domain of sustainability. The organizers are expecting some 8 million visitors, of whom some 500,000 will be coming from abroad.

Switzerland will present itself with a pavilion conceived by the creative team of designers “Steiner Tamschick Nüssli”. The visitor will be treated to an interactive, emotional experience that, while presenting the Swiss glaciers as custodian of primal water, also documents the responsibility Switzerland has assumed and the competence it has manifested in protecting the purity of water and in restoring its purity.

In the run-up to Expo 2012 Yeosu, a presence of Switzerland is being planned to transpire in Seoul. This so-called “satellite” presence is primarily addressed to future opinion leaders and decision-makers in the field of sustainability, and will include the demonstration of various activities which Switzerland will present from their innovative side.
