In order to start the marriage procedure, the fiancé has to submit all documents mentioned above to the Embassy. Please inquire for the fees involved prior to your visit to the Embassy.
In case of taking up residence in Switzerland after the marriage, the foreign fiancé has to apply for a visa in order to enter Switzerland. This procedure takes at least 8 weeks. Please be aware that additional documents such as the original passport and 3 photographs are requested in order to submit the visa application. The form can be obtained at this Embassy or downloaded from its website.
This visa procedure is not applicable to Malaysian citizens as they do not need a visa for entering Switzerland. However, their partner should apply in Switzerland for an "Authorization to stay in Switzerland". This document is needed in order to leave Malaysia with a one way ticket.
Registration of a Marriage with the Malaysian authorities:
Please note that non-Muslim Malaysian citizens are requested to register their marriage at a Malaysian Mission overseas or in Malaysia at the Registration Office within 6 months after registering the marriage at a Swiss Civil Marriage Registry.
