Message of the Embassy

It is a great pleasure for me and the team of the Swiss Embassy in Damascus to welcome you on this web site. Throughout the following pages, you will find useful information, such as:

General information about Switzerland, its political and educational system, its economy and culture.
Practical information about how to obtain a visa and travel to Switzerland.
For Swiss citizens living in Syria, this web site provides comprehensive information about registration, civil status matters, vote from abroad, passport, going back to Switzerland, etc.
Information about security in case of a crisis.
Cultural activities organized by the Swiss Embassy in Damascus.

Because of the deteriorating security situation in the country, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) urges all Swiss citizens in Syria to leave the country, as long as commercial transportation is still available. In this context, the Swiss Embassy will support Swiss citizens with consular assistance within its means. The decision to leave however remains a voluntary and individual one. Swiss citizens who choose to remain in Syria against our clear advice should be aware that our current ability to provide consular assistance is limited and would even be more so in the event of a further breakdown in law and order.

From 12.02.2012 and until further notice, the Visa Section at the Swiss Embassy in Damascus will be temporarily closed to the general public and the services transferred to the Visa Offices of the Swiss Embassies in Beirut and Amman. However, on pre-arranged appointment only, the Consular and Visa Section of the Swiss Embassy in Damascus remains open to Swiss citizens living in Syria until 23.02.2012 for the renewal of travel documents, issuing of visa for family members and other consular assistance.
