Family registers in Switzerland have to be accurate and up-to-date. Changes in the status of Swiss citizens - birth, marriage, divorce, death - which have taken place in Albania need to be reported to the Embassy of Switzerland in Tirana. When such changes occur, the persons concerned, or their nearest relatives, should send an original in question (birth, death, marriage or divorce certificates) to the Embassy.

Important 
All Albanian documents have to be legalized (Apostille) by the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Please note that marriage and birth certificates as well as divorce decrees must be certified by the issuing authority not more than 6 months before they are sent for registration. They will not be returned to you.

In order to register your marriage in Albania with the Swiss authorities, please forward the following documents at your earliest convenience to the Swiss Embassy in Tirana:

•  1 original marriage certificate issued by the relevant Albanian Civil Registrar Office;

If your spouse is an Albanian citizen, additional documents are required:

• 1 original birth certificate issued before the marriage by the Civil Registrar Office
• If your spouse was married before: a certified (by the court) copy of the final divorce decree showing the exact date when the judgment entered into force, or 1 original death certificate of the former spouse, issued by the Civil Registry Office
• your valid passport (will be returned to you)
• confirmation/proof of residency
• declaration of name if applicable (available at the Embassy)

In order to register your child’s birth with the Swiss authorities, please send the following document at your earliest convenience to the Swiss Embassy:

• 1 original birth certificate

If the parents of the child are not married, additional documents are required. Please contact the Embassy in Tirana.

In order to register a death with the Swiss authorities, please send an original death certificate to the Swiss Embassy in Tirana.

In order to register a divorce that has been pronounced in Albania with the Swiss authorities, please send the following documents at your earliest convenience to the Swiss Embassy in Tirana:

• 1 certified - by the court - copy of the final divorce decree showing the exact date when judgment entered into effect (including the custody order for minor children, if applicable)
