Work visa

For applicants taking up employment in Austria, have to submit their documents at the Austrian Embassy in Baku. Please check their website for further information.

For applicants taking up employment in Switzerland (visa type D / Swiss national visa application form).

All foreigners wishing to work in Switzerland need a work permit, regardless whether the work is paid or not paid. Subcontracting of labour from abroad to Switzerland is not allowed.

Due to the international engagements contracted by Switzerland with its close neighbours, priority is given to citizens of the European Union (EU) and of the European Free Trade Association countries (EFTA). Only exceptionally can citizens of other countries meet the conditions required to obtain a work permit, for example if they have exceptional skills or talents that no person already established in Switzerland and no citizen of EU/EFTA can match.

Requirements:

  1. 3 application forms duly completed and signed by the applicant. Applications which are not fully completed dated and signed will not be accepted.
  2. Passport valid for at least three months after the date when the holder leaves Switzerland/Schengen area and issued within the last 10 years.
  3. 2 copies of the applicant's passport (pages with photo/name and if applicable prolongation).
  4. 2 copies of other valid visas. 
  5. 4 passport photographs (34 - 40 mm in width, sharp focus and clear, close-up of head and neck, undamaged, not older than 6 months). Pictures not meeting the requirements will be refused.
  6. Contract with Swiss company (original plus 2 copies, original will be returned to applicant).

The visa application file has to be submitted personally!

The applicant’s request will be forwarded for decision to the responsible immigration authority in Switzerland, therefore the Embassy will additionally charge USD 9.00 for postage. The Swiss Embassy can only issue a work visa upon receipt of the authorisation.

Please note that the procedure takes approx. 6 – 12 weeks.
