Voting and electoral rights
Each major Swiss citizen registered at a Swiss representation (please follow the link provided in the link box on the right side of this webpage for information about registration) can exercise political rights by post. On the occasion of registering, the commune of origin or a previous commune of residence can be chosen as the electoral commune. The designated electoral commune will confirm the entry in the electoral register in writing.
A Swiss national wishing to sign federal popular petitions, can request the material directly from the relevant initiative or referendum committee.
In certain states, participation in the political life of another country can involve sanctions and/or, in the case of dual nationals, result in the loss of the non-Swiss nationality. Further details can be obtained from the authorities of your country of residence.
