The register provides a comprehensive picture of Swiss nationals living in the consular districts and includes the details required to fulfill official functions, such as issue new passports, register births, marriages, and so forth.
The following persons should register with their local Swiss representation abroad:
Swiss citizens who intend to stay in the consular district for more than 12 months and who are no longer registered in Switzerland or Swiss citizens who acquire Swiss citizenship by birth, naturalization or adoption who already live in the consular district and are older than 18
Procedure
To register, the following documents must be submitted to the competent Swiss representation:
- A duly completed, dated and signed
Registration form - A valid Swiss passport or identity card and for those of your family members
- A certificate of origin; the original will be kept in our file
- If available, family certificate or certificate of civil status for Swiss nationals
- If available, a confirmation of departure from your last place of residence in Switzerland
Your personal documents will be returned to you within 2-3 business days after registration.
If your Swiss documents are no longer valid, a certificate of civil status will have to be ordered in Switzerland for a fee (please check with the representation for the amount of the fee and payment instructions). If you do not have a Swiss passport and/or identity card, please include another original identity document (e.g., canadien passport).

This Consulate General will then be able to change your address for the mailing of: Swiss Review, Voting material, Voluntary Old Age Insurance Scheme, Solidarity Fund
Persons who receive the cultural bulletin of this Consulate General should specify this in order that the mailing list of our Cultural Section may also be updated.
A change of adress not communicated will result in the closure of your file with this Consulate General.
Since July 1, 1992, Swiss nationals living abroad have been able to participate in political life in Switzerland (i.e., in votes on federal proposals and in National Council elections) without having to travel to Switzerland.
As a Swiss national resident abroad, you can exercise your political rights by mail from another country if you:
- have moved abroad
- are at least 18 years old, and
- are registered with a Swiss representation abroad
The relevant "Registration as an Expatriate Swiss National Entitled to Vote" form can be downloaded (see downloads). The completed form must be sent to the Swiss representation.
To obtain, to renew or to replace a Canadian driver's licence, please communicate with the licence bureau of your province or territory.
Loss of Swiss driver's licence
This Consulate General of Switzerland is not authorized to emit driver's licences. The individuals residing in Switzerland must submit their request directly to the Automobile Services of their area. Additional information concerning the transcripts of driver's licences may be obtained from the internet site of the Federal Roads Office. It is possible for an individual to sollicite the Federal Office establishment or to obtain a driver's licence transcript only if she/he is officially a resident of Switzerland.

Swiss citizens residing outside of Switzerland no longer have the possibility to order a Swiss driver's licence or to request a transcript of their licence from the Swiss representation of their country of residence or from the Automobile Services of their canton. In case of loss of a Swiss driver's licence while visiting Canada, the individual must contact the licence bureau of her/his province or territory.
The Federation of Swiss Societies has, as its mandate, the promotion of Swiss culture and events on behalf of its Member and Affiliate Clubs and Societies. The primary such event is the organisation and staging of the Swiss National Day celebration which is held annually since 1977 on Mount Sutton, in the Eastern Townships. The event is staged on the Saturday that falls closest to August 1st.
The Members of the Federation are the many Swiss Clubs and Organisations in whose interest the Federation acts. Its Board of Directors consists of individuals elected from among the member clubs and societies.
Only Swiss Clubs and Societies, rather than individuals, can become members or affiliated members of the Federation.
