Armasuisse Washington Office (AWO)

Armasuisse, formerly known as the Swiss Defense Procurement Agency of the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports (DDPS) is an entity of the DDPS and is responsible for research, development, testing, evaluation, acquisition and liquidation of defense equipment and services for the Swiss Armed Forces.

An integral part of armasuisse, the AWO oversees technical and contractual aspects of Swiss government procurement of U.S. defense equipment and services under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Swiss Confederation concerning Reciprocal Defense Procurement, it also provides Swiss industry with access to the U.S. Department of Defense market on an equal footing with the U.S. defense industry. In addition, the AWO has a coordinating role in Swiss industry participation agreements (Offset) which the Swiss Government concludes with U.S. defense contractors to procure major defense equipment.
