Civil Status Matters

Are you registered with the Consulate General of Switzerland in Sydney? In this case, and as indicated in the "Notice for Newly Registered Persons", to keep the family registers accurate and up-to-date, Swiss authorities need to be informed about any changes in the civil status of Swiss citizens and dual nationals (birth, marriage, death and divorce). When such changes occur, the persons concerned, or their nearest relatives, should send the responsible Swiss representation a complete and original of the document in question (birth, death, marriage or divorce certificates), which may be obtained from the competent Australian authorities:

Originals of birth, marriage and death certificates issued by the Registrar General's Office of the State where the event occurred. Originals of divorce decrees may be requested from the court which granted the divorce. Use the websites of the relevant State Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages Offices for further information and to download application forms for birth, death and marriage certificates; to change your name, to amend details on an existing certificate.

Kindly note that Swiss citizens whose place of origin is in the Canton of Vaud, are requested by the civil registries of Vaud to have all Australian documents stamped with an Apostille. Documents without Apostille will not be accepted. The original documents sent to the authorities of Vaud will not be returned to you.
