The Mission is Switzerland’s diplomatic representation to the European Union. It represents the interests of Switzerland in respect of the EU, follows and analyses developments in European policy and facilitates contact between representatives of Switzerland and the EU.
The Mission is staffed by almost 40 members, including diplomats and colleagues from other federal departments.
The Mission maintains regular contact with the EU institutions, member State representations and, more broadly, civil society. Mission staff prepare and coordinate visits by representatives of the Federal Administration to Brussels and also participate in delegations for bilateral negotiations with the EU. Depending on the topic concerned, staff follow-up agreements, coordinate the participation of Switzerland in European programmes and participate in EU expert meetings and working groups.
The Mission of Switzerland to the EU is one of three Swiss representations in Brussels. The Embassy of Switzerland in Belgium and the Swiss Mission to NATO are also established there.
