Chairmanship of the OSCE

At the Ministerial Council of the OSCE in Vilnius (Lithuania), Switzerland campaigned for the Swiss-Serbian bid for consecutive chairmanship of the OSCE in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Since 10 February 2012 it is confirmed: Switzerland will hold for the second time the OSCE Chairmanship in 2014.

Democracy and Human Rights
  • Upon invitation by Switzerland, the Warsaw-based Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) sent out a mission charged with the observation of the federal elections on 23 October 2011. This year's mission was particularly interested in the various pilot projects concerning E-Voting facilities which were realized for the first time by a number of cantons.
  • On 7 – 9 November 2011, the three special representatives of the OSCE Chairmanship for tolerance and non-discrimination visited Switzerland. They met with Swiss authorities and representatives of the civil society to discuss the situation of religious groups in Switzerland as well as questions concerning discrimination, xenophobia and racism in general.
Important Statements

The Swiss Delegation to the OSCE speaks out on important issues in all three dimensions that make up the comprehensive concept of security in the OSCE. Especially in the weekly sessions of the Permanent Council and in the Human Dimension Committee, which is chaired by Switzerland in 2011 and 2012, Switzerland has repeatedly taken a stand.
